<p>Notes: The <code>canonify</code> function translates illegal characters to underscores, e.g. <code>start_cf-monitord</code> becomes <code>start_cf_monitord</code>.  Only alphanumerics and underscores are allowed in CFEngine identifiers (names of variables, classes, bundles, etc.)</p>
